This is so gorgeous, the words + images. I doubt I'll ever get to Northumberland, but I felt like I was there for a few minutes. What an amazing place--at least, through your eyes it is.
Thank you so much, Rita. I'm quite certain I never would have gone to Northumberland if I hadn't met Tom, but now it is the part of England that I know the deepest. I feel fortunate that I get to visit Tom's family and linger there long enough to get into the rhythms of nature, no matter the season. There's still so much there I've yet to explore too. It's a magical place to me.
Oh, this is lovely. That first shot heading north and east really captures it. I'd love to go back. We flew over Bamburgh Castle on our commuter flight into Newcastle from Amsterdam. I was fascinated by the sandy beaches below us. Looked almost tropical from the air. I think we must have just skimmed past Kirkwhelpington on our way from Bellingham back to the airport on our way home. I just love Northumberland.
Thank you, John! Bamburgh Castle is pretty special - I love looking for it and Dunstanburgh and Lindisfarne from the air when the flight path in and out of Newcastle is just right. An incredible, wild, dramatic coastline. Inland too is so vast and such an amazing area. It's not on anyone's radar really as a tourist destination, which is just wonderful of course for the rest of us who get to enjoy it. I just love turning around the name "Kirkwhelpington" in my brain, something satisfying about that.
Thank you so much, Susanne! It's been soothing for me too to revisit this work, remembering a simpler time where we could spend all day in pursuit of adventure and photographs! More of this in 2025 please.
In your 5th paragraph in this article,"..the beauty lies in the bleakness." I agree, sometime in my 20s taking a long walk, it occured to me how beautiful late winter truely is and how much more I love even the rainy day no matter the season because the colors have no sun, the moon has to have the sun, but our bare branches, faded grasses, and everything else now reveals their true colors.
It's so true, Lura. I think once you gear up and get out there (the hardest part), there are real rewards for doing so, and I agree that it's an entirely different experience without the sun harshly illuminating things. Even from inside there is beauty to behold too. Thanks so much for your beautiful comment here.

Love that part of the world even in winter. Its wild and beautiful. Craster kippers and fish & chips- yum! 😋
Thank you Linda, it's almost dinner time here as I write this and I'm wishing we had fish and chips tonight in fact!
Thank you for your comment, Linda! I see that you are from Cumbria, also such a beautiful corner of the world with its own culinary treasures.
Indeed! 😊
