A late summer round-up.
FIRST WORKSHOP
On Saturday I led my first-ever workshop guiding ten people through the historic farm at Frederic Church’s Olana. Have you heard of Frederic Church? Perhaps you learned about the Hudson River School back in your art history days like I did (Church studied under Thomas Cole and went on to become a superstar landscape painter).
Each and every person who attended the workshop brought their own expectations, experiences, viewpoints and curiosities, and this community of people that came together for just two hours made the workshop more vibrant and fulfilling than I could have hoped for. We even ended the program with seasonal snacks which was a delightful way to honor this temporary community – I made a focaccia decorated with squash blossoms (at the end of this e-mail you can see what that looks like)! I can easily imagine leading more workshops in the future. As they say in the UK, watch this space…
HAPPENING HAPPENSTANCE

from in collaboration with for her Ephemere space, the group show is a striking collection of photographs that explore (among other things) creativity, wit, finding joy in the ordinary, and seeing the world in a fresh light. We are so happy to be part of what is a really impressive show and wish we could be there in person – the idea of a trip to Japan feels good right now! Thanks to Colin, Anne, and Federico Zavatta (Contrast Design) for his book design work, and congratulations to all the other talented photographers selected. We will raise a glass to you all on 8/24!

TELLING STORIES
F-Stop Magazine has included three of our photographs in the current Telling Stories 2024 issue of F-Stop Magazine. These photographs come from the collection we made with Cosman & Webb at their family farm in the Eastern Townships of southern Quebec where they produce their delicious single forest maple syrup. As always with F-Stop, the group exhibition is excellent with a wide range of work to enjoy and artists to discover. We are happy to be among them!

THIS WAY
As you may know, the photographs we make available as limited release art drops are only available for a week before they enter a 1-year embargo. We do this to get some space from the work and reassess it with fresh eyes after a lap around the sun. It’s hard to believe, but a year has now passed since Tom made This Way for Art Drop #3 in August 2023.

Over the last few weeks we have been gradually getting to know our new environs in western Massachusetts; from the inside of our house to our beautiful meadow and hillside view, our small town, and the things we see on drives to and from camp or the grocery store. Here are some photographs from the last few weeks of summer…
