That's a beautiful shot. Love the red barns. (I'm also thoroughly fed up with being an adult, thanks very much.)

Much as I'd love the gift test shot, I'm not in the US. I'm sure it'll make one lucky reader very happy!

Claire thank you so much for your solidarity in this unfortunate business of being an adult. I so loved reading your garden newsletter this morning to start my day - I feel like I could have written it myself! It would be my pleasure to send the gift print to your beautiful home in Bulgaria. DM me your address!

Absolutely not a big fan of this whole adult thing.

It's suboptimal for sure!

Love the images.

Adulting not so much.

Thanks Joe... less adulting, more wonder and curiosity please!

Love the red barns. Never heard the expression adulting until last year when an insurance company here picked up on it to show how easy getting insurance from them is. Yes. Being an adult. The worst. Day 4 of our big power outage. Hope to get power back by Friday. Keep your spirits up!

Hey hey. Power just came back on. 68 hours has passed. Hoping it will hold.

Thank you John! I appreciate your validation that being an adult is the worst. We didn’t sign up for this! I am glad your power is restored and am impressed you got your newsletter out during an outage!

The power of using the substack scheduling option.

I can relate to the overwhelm of being an adult. It is all too much!

But the unexpected gifts keep surprising us and still come to us, often when we need them most.

I love those barn images. The diptych is exquisite!

Thank you, Manuela! I think this idea of “unexpected gifts” is something I need more of in my life, being open to receiving them but also giving them away as often as I can… maybe it can be an antidote to everything I struggle with as an adult.

The barn images are lovely. I like how the color stands out from the not-spring-yet landscape. (Adulting becomes a necessity, like it or not.)

Thank you, Kathy! I'm curious how the relationship between the barns and landscape will look in all seasons as the colors change. You'll be seeing these barns again I have no doubt!

Gorgeous, Diana! A good antidote to adulting. I love the idea of creative work being evidence of resilience.

Thanks, Rita! I realize at my most stressed how difficult it is to access that creative, free-thinking, curious part of my brain. It's essentially as if blood flow is restricted there and only allowed if get distracted by noticing something particularly special to make me forget what is weighing me down.

Thank you for sharing your birdsong as well. I love the main barn image and also the red wall with the Goldenrod galls.

Love this photo and thanks for the sounds of spring where you are.

On adulting: "You can have all of the ice cream you want at bedtime when you grow up", they said. "You can stay up all night if you want, once you're grown", they said. "You won't have a curfew when you live on your own", they said.

They didn't say anything about any of the stuff on your list. I want a do-over. :p

Exactly, Tim!!! I couldn't care less about ice cream and I want to go to bed early. I just don't want to do or think about any of that other stuff! Sigh...

Beautiful images Diana - there's something special about a red barn isn't there. As for adulting, I've got to agree with you on the responsibilities and stress...but you know what, when I see the demands placed on children and teens today through media influence I'm glad I don't have to go through that!

Thank you, Lin, that's a good point. There's got to be a way to have more ease and peace at all stages of life.
